What the state pays, and what you pay
The 2026 Klimabonus follows a tapering formula, not a flat percentage. Move the sliders and the figures update instantly. Nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored — it all runs in your browser.
Rule of thumb: roughly 5 m² of roof per kWp. A household using 4,500 kWh a year usually lands between 6 and 9 kWp.

Eligible from 2 kWh; the maximum amount is reached at 9 kWh.

Battery storage
Modular from 5 kWh, up to 29 kWh within one metre of height. With backup power, lights, fridge and router stay on during an outage.
Farming, commerce and industry
AC storage with 215 kWh capacity and 100 kW charge and discharge, liquid-cooled, up to ten units in parallel. Built for peak shaving and off-grid sites.
EV charging and load management
Charge when the sun is out. Energy management routes surplus to the car, the battery and hot water instead of exporting it.
Heat pump and hot water
An air-to-water heat pump running on your own solar electricity, plus the fresh-water system tank: hot water without legionella risk, self-consumption up to 100 %.
Special installations
Carport, balcony, fence, terrace roof. Bi-glass modules with bifacial cells capture up to 30 % extra light through the back.
Subsidies 2026
Luxembourg backs solar harder than almost any neighbour
The new Klimabonus Wunnen regime has applied since 4 January 2026. Two things changed fundamentally: fixed formulas instead of percentages, and no more fronting the money.

Klimabonus or guaranteed feed-in tariff — since 4 January 2026 you have to choose.
Taking the Klimabonus means running the system in self-consumption mode and waiving the statutory feed-in payment. Surplus can still be exported and sold at market price. For households, self-consumption usually wins over fifteen years, because avoided grid electricity is worth more than exported electricity. We model both before you sign anything.
3 % VAT instead of 17 %
The super-reduced rate applies to the supply and installation of new solar systems, regardless of size. Storage batteries are excluded and stay at 17 % — both must appear separately on the quote.
Pre-financing since 4 January 2026
The approved installer deducts the Klimabonus directly from your invoice and settles with the state. You pay only the balance. This covers new systems with or without a battery fitted at the same time; a battery retrofitted later follows the classic route.
Grants from your commune
Many Luxembourg communes add something on top. Amounts vary widely; the Klima-Agence simulator shows what applies where you live. We check it while preparing your quote.
Enoprimes and Nova Naturstroum
Energy suppliers pay additional premiums for efficiency measures. They stack with the Klimabonus but come with their own conditions — the application has to be filed before work starts.
Deadlines worth knowing
- Invoices for solar and storage: between 4 January 2026 and 31 December 2029.
- Extended to 31 December 2031 if the system was ordered by 31 December 2029 at the latest.
- Applications to the Guichet unique des aides au logement by 31 December 2031.
- One application per installation. Double applications or mixing pre- and post-financing are not allowed.

Conversation and roof check
We talk consumption, roof, orientation and shading. One look at your last electricity bill beats any estimate. Remote analysis or a site visit — whichever suits you.

Sizing and quote
You get a layout with an output forecast, a quote with VAT shown separately, and the subsidy calculation alongside it. Both scenarios — self-consumption with Klimabonus, and the feed-in tariff — side by side.

Subsidies and registrations
We handle the Klimabonus application with pre-financing, the registration with grid operator Creos and, where needed, the exchange with your commune.

Installation
Mounting rails, modules, inverter, battery, meter cabinet. One to two days on the roof for a family home, then the electrical connection.

Commissioning and operation
Handover, a walkthrough of the app, monitoring. Output, consumption and state of charge visible at any time. Maintenance and callouts run through the installation partner.

A thirty-year warranty says something about the factory
Modules age. What matters is how fast. We favour European production with a documented supply chain, because a warranty is only worth as much as the manufacturer still standing in twenty years.

Short answers
How much subsidy will I actually get?
It depends on system size. The formula tapers: smaller systems get proportionally more, and the absolute ceiling of €10,000 is reached at 15 kWp. For a typical 8 kWp system the Klimabonus comes to roughly €7,100, with about €2,220 on top for an 8 kWh battery. The calculator above shows your case.
Do I have to front the subsidy?
Not since 4 January 2026. The approved installer deducts the Klimabonus directly from the invoice and settles with the state. You pay only the balance. One exception: a battery retrofitted later onto an existing system still follows the classic route, with the application filed after invoicing.
Klimabonus or feed-in tariff — which is better?
You cannot have both. Under the guaranteed feed-in tariff all generation is bought at a fixed rate for fifteen years; the Klimabonus requires self-consumption instead. For a household with normal daytime use, self-consumption usually wins over fifteen years, because avoided grid electricity is worth more than exported electricity. With very low self-consumption the balance can tip. We model both.
What does a system cost in Luxembourg?
Turnkey, usually between €1,200 and €2,100 per kWp including VAT, depending on the roof, access and equipment. An 8 kWp system therefore lands roughly between €13,000 and €15,000. Batteries add around €700 to €900 per kWh. Differences between installers are substantial, so comparing quotes pays.
Is a battery worth it?
It typically lifts self-consumption from around 30 % to 55–70 %. Whether it pays depends on your electricity price and your usage pattern: someone out of the house during the day gains more than someone working from home. The Klimabonus of up to €2,250 shifts the maths noticeably in the battery's favour.
How long does it take?
Around six weeks from signature to your first self-generated kilowatt-hour. Installation on a family home takes one to two days. What usually takes time is the grid registration and delivery, not the work on the roof.
Do I need a building permit?
For a standard rooftop system on an ordinary house, usually not. For listed buildings, protected zones, façade systems and ground-mounted arrays, yes. The commune decides — we clarify it before installation.
I live in an apartment block, or I rent. Is this still possible?
In an apartment block yes, via a decision of the owners' assembly; the subsidy is then calculated per dwelling. If you rent, a plug-in system up to 800 W remains an option and needs only the landlord's consent and a registration.
